About Top Tier Grading Company

Top Tier Grading Company is a growing grading and excavation company focused on doing the highest-quality work possible while operating efficiently and safely.

We are equipped with modern GPS-integrated equipment and continue to invest in new technology, training, and education as the industry evolves. Our team brings years of experience from many areas of the construction industry, and we take pride in going the extra mile on every project.

Our typical scope of work includes site clearing, mass earthwork, site development, building and basement excavation, and site utilities, including water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer. While the majority of our work is commercial, we also take on select residential projects.

We're looking for people who take pride in their work, want to continue developing their skills, and want to be part of a team that cares about doing things right.

The Position

We're looking for an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team.

This position is about more than simply sitting in a machine and moving dirt. We want operators who understand what they're building, why they're doing it, and what the finished product needs to look like.

The right operator can look at a set of plans, understand grades and elevations, operate their machine efficiently, communicate with the rest of the crew, and recognize when something doesn't look right.

You'll be expected to take ownership of your work and be able to work independently when needed, while still being an effective part of the overall crew.

We operate modern GPS-integrated equipment, including Topcon machine-control systems, and we continue to invest in technology that allows our operators to work more accurately and efficiently.

What You'll Do

  • Operate a variety of heavy equipment, including excavators, dozers, loaders, and off-road dump trucks.

  • Perform grading, excavation, site preparation, and other earthwork operations.

  • Complete assigned work independently and as part of a crew.

  • Take ownership of assigned work from start to finish and produce a quality finished product.

  • Read, interpret, and work from civil, architectural, structural, grading, and other construction plans.

  • Establish and maintain proper grades, elevations, slopes, and offsets.

  • Operate GPS machine-control systems, including Topcon, or learn the system as needed.

  • Recognize different soil classifications and understand how soil conditions affect excavation and grading.

  • Communicate with foremen, operators, laborers, and other crew members to coordinate work and keep projects moving.

  • Identify potential problems in the field and communicate them before they become larger issues.

  • Perform basic equipment maintenance, including greasing, servicing, and checking fluid levels.

  • Communicate equipment maintenance or repair needs.

  • Keep equipment and work areas clean and organized.

  • Assist the utility crew and other company crews when needed.

  • Perform manual labor when required, including occasionally lifting in excess of 75 pounds.

  • Follow all company and job-site safety requirements.

  • Operate different equipment as project needs change.

  • Help train and mentor less-experienced operators as you become familiar with Top Tier's equipment and procedures.

  • Obtain and maintain a Class A CDL.

We're not necessarily looking for someone who knows everything. We're looking for an experienced operator who wants to keep learning, takes pride in their work, and understands that being a good operator is about more than just running a machine.

What We Expect From Our Operators

Our operators are an important part of every project.

We expect our operators to pay attention to what's happening around them, communicate with the crew, and speak up when something doesn't look right.

If you see a problem, don't just work around it.

If you aren't sure about something, ask.

If you finish your work, look for what needs to happen next.

We want operators who take ownership of their work and understand that the quality of the finished project reflects on the entire team.

At the same time, we have experienced people throughout our company who are willing to share their knowledge.

We're looking for people who are confident in their abilities but humble enough to continue learning.
